Developing Your Trauma Skilled Practice 4 : understanding the use of substances to cope with the impact of trauma

Aims and Objectives:

This supplementary module is part of the Developing your trauma skilled practice e-learning program and is designed for anyone who has contact with people who may have been affected by traumatic events and/or substance use.

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the prevalence and impact of trauma for people with a substance use problem
  • To understand how substance use and trauma symptoms can impact each other
  • To respect the resilience in people surviving by using coping behaviours available to them
  • To develop your own collaborative trauma-informed approach
  • To recognise the need for recovery pathways that accommodate multiple complex needs

Duration: 

The module should take you around 2 hours to complete.

Audience: 

This training is aimed at any individual staff or volunteer of public services or third sector/community groups that are likely to be coming into contact with people who may have been affected by trauma. Please complete the foundational module “Developing your trauma skilled practice 1” prior.
