Aims and Objectives

Learning Aims:


The aim of this course is to teach people to recognise the signs and symptoms of someone with mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety and psychosis, and to help deal with a crisis situation by guiding someone towards professional and other help.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course, participants will:

  • Have an understanding of mental health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, and psychosis
  • Know how to give initial support and comfort to someone experiencing a mental health problem
  • Know how to deal with a crisis situation or the first signs of someone developing mental ill health
  • Be able to support people to access appropriate help, including both professional support and evidence-based self-help strategies
  • Know how to promote recovery of good mental health
  • Explore the impact of alcohol and drugs on mental health.

Duration:

2 Full days – Learners must complete both days in order to receive accreditation.
