  • Thriving Families

    About:

    “We are funded by the Highland Council to provide an independent, rights-based, information, advice and support service for anyone involved in the care of children and young people (up to age 25).

    An additional support need is anything which means a child needs more, or different, support to another child the same age to make the most of their lives. A child can need extra help for lots of reasons, including having a disability, having an illness or long-term condition, being looked after or in care, being a young carer, having a difficult family situation, being bullied or suffering a bereavement.”

    “We provide information and advice to professionals so you are better able to support and signpost families to services and resources.

    We deliver our virtual Pines sessions in partnership with the National Autistic Society Scotland and the Pines training team. These sessions have a neurodevelopmental focus but much of the content is relevant to a broad range of additional support needs. You can see all upcoming events on the Pines website and watch many of the recorded sessions on the Pines You Tube channel.

    We are also funded by NHS Highland to provide a digital support service for adult carers of children and young people with additional support needs.”

  • Morning Call and Visiting Service

    About:

    “We offer a FREE daily morning telephone call to any older person who feels that they need the reassurance of someone checking to see if they are ok and having no difficulties.”

    “The Visiting Service is for socially isolated older people who as a result of circumstances are not able to leave their home and have requested a visitor.”

    Housebound Library Service

    “If an older person is unable to get to their local library but would like to continue to get library books, we have volunteers who can collect their book selection from the library and deliver the library books to them in their own home.  They can also return the books to the library at a later date.”

    About:

    “Our Active Health project supports people to become more active as a way of improving their health and wellbeing.

    There is no cost to participate and we work with anyone registered with a GP practice in the Highlands who would benefit from being more physically active. You can self refer by clicking HERE or be referred by your GP / health practitioner.”

    “Our Project Workers, Lisa and Jodi, will meet with you to discuss your motivation, interests, hopes and challenges. We understand it can be difficult to make changes and support you to take small steps towards activities you enjoy. It can be helpful to set goals and create a plan to keep track of how you’re getting on.

    We currently work 1:1 by video call. (Or phone if that’s not possible) We usually have 3 appointments spread over 3 months. The initial meeting is up to 1 hour, followed by 2 x 30 minute reviews.”

  • Sutherland Tykes Young Carers

    About:

    “The project was established to provide information and support to children aged under 18 years of age who have a caring role within their family.”

    Young Carer Individual Support – One to one time with a worker.

    This is a limited service. Priority is given to young people whose needs may not be fully met within group work or who are experiencing difficulty in being part of a group.

    Young Carer Groups – Organised activities, discussions, support and a chance to meet other young carers and have fun.

    Residentials and Day Trips – Time-out from home. A chance to try new things and have fun.

    From time to time and if funding allows, we are able to offer young carers the chance to get away for a week or a weekend if their home situation allows. We also organise one-off day trips and open days for young carers.

    Information and Support – To enable young carers and their families to access other services.

    Awareness Raising – Campaigning on behalf of young carers locally and nationally.

    Through networking and partnership with other organisations, staff from TYKES aim to highlight young carers issues and inform other professionals in order to help identify hidden young carers.”

  • Caithness Klics

    About:

    “Caithness KLICS is the only dedicated young carers project in Caithness and our aims are to support young people under the age of 18 years old who have a caring role at home. These young people can find themselves caring or supporting a parent with a long or short term illness or who may have drug alcohol or mental health issues. They could also be helping support a sibling. We aim to support these young people through one to one support, group activities and by working with the schools to ensure they reach the same potential as their peers.

    We will support and encourage the youngsters to become more confident and build self esteem so they can empower their own lives to be able to make their own decisions for their futures.

    We will have respite breaks where they can relax and enjoy being what they are CHILDREN.

    We can offer One to One support or we have a drop in at our New KLICS  Centre “Old Norlin Playgroup, Macleod Road Wick”
