Category: Training on Trauma

  • Trauma Informed Practice Training

Trauma-Informed Practice training is designed for staff to understand the prevalence of trauma within our communities and how this may impact an individual.

    Workforce Practice levels

The Scottish Transforming Psychological Trauma Framework outlines 4 practice levels  of knowledge. The framework specifies incremental knowledge and skills at different practice levels – depending on the role of the worker and remit of the service .The  training needs are cumulative – from Informed to Skilled and beyond. The aspiration is that all workers across all service sectors will develop a trauma-informed level of understanding and skill. The framework lays out the essential and core knowledge and skills needed by all tiers of the Scottish workforce.

A key message from the training is staff are not expected to become or replace mental health professionals. Trauma-Informed level training is designed for staff to understand the prevalence of trauma within our communities and how this can be may impact an individual.

Opening Doors: Trauma Informed Practice for the Workforce animation (9 mins)

This animation explains why and how trauma is everyone’s business. It is designed to support anyone to become trauma informed – no matter what their job or role in society. While it does not go into specific details, the animation does makes reference to traumatic events like childhood sexual abuse and domestic abuse. Please be mindful of protecting your well-being if you choose to watch this today.

    • Have clear ideas how, in their role, they can reduce or prevent the impacts of adverse childhood experiences
    • Understand the roles of other staff, agencies and services, and how to work together using a common language
    • Be confident in applying knowledge about trauma and adverse childhood experiences to joint planning for children
    • Have a simple framework, based on SHANARRI, for communicating about adversity and trauma safely and clearly to young people and families
